BY THE GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF NORTH CAROLINA A PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, in the summer of 1967, a group of passionate North Carolinians saw a need to introduce a program of experiential education for the youth of the state; and
WHEREAS, for fifty years, North Carolina Outward Bound School has provided an enduring impact for students of alI ages; and
WHEREAS, North Carolina Outward Bound School continues with its founders’ vision: “To Serve, To Strive, and Not To Yield”; and
WHEREAS, North Carolina Outward Bound School, a nonprofit 50l (c)(3) charitable organization, commits to a mission of “Changing Lives Through Challenge and Discovery,” and to building upon the Four Pillars of Outward Bound : Self-Reliance, Physical Fitness, Craftsmanship, and above all, Compassion;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, ROY COOPER, Governor of the State of North Carolina, do hereby proclaim July, 2017, as “NORTH CAROLINA OUTWARD BOUN D SCHOOL MONTH ” in honor of the organization’s 50th anniversary in North Carolina, and commend its observance to all citizens.
