WHY: The Charlotte Unity Project works in seven Charlotte-Mecklenberg High Schools (CMS) to instill compassionate leadership, community building, bias awareness, moral courage, and empowerment for social change. After participating in a weeklong wilderness expedition, students work in school-based Unity clubs to plan and implement community projects that build cultural competency grow social capital, and work to assert social justice. These projects can reach more than 10,000 CMS students this year with your help.
"The Unity course puts students in a vulnerable place where they can struggle together, be courageous together, and be compassionate toward each other, in the purest and most beautiful way, we learn about the lives of others who have previously been insignificant to us. This experience allows us to jump out of our comfort zones to lead and teach ourselves and others the importance and significance of every aspect of every life." -Klaus, Myers Park High School, Unity Alum
