50th CELEBRATION WEEKEND
October 20-22 | Asheville, NC
With only five weeks to go until the 50th Anniversary Celebration Weekend, we wanted to provide a little more information about our plans for the weekend so everyone can know what to expect. Our primary objective of the weekend is to provide an opportunity for people to connect with the school’s history, with your own NCOBS experience, and with one another. We designed the following events—all of which are open to all—in order to do just that:
The 50th Anniversary Campaign Gala on Friday, October 20th from 6-10 PM is the most formal celebration event of the weekend. The event will be held at the Biltmore Estate at the Diana, which overlooks the historic Biltmore House and layers of majestic mountain ridges to the west. The program includes a social hour, four-course meal, brief remarks from special guests about the history—and future—of our school, along with a few surprises. A portion of the evening will be dedicated to celebrating the final phase of the 50th Anniversary Campaign. All are welcometo attend. Attire for the event is “Outward Bound Formal” (Black Tie is optional) and tickets are $165.
Town Office Open House on Friday, October 20 from 4-8 PM. For those who are in town for the weekend, but are not interested in a formal event, we are opening the Town Office (NCOBS Headquarters) for a casual Open House and “Goodie Bag” pick-up. There will be a food truck on site so that folks who would like to can purchase dinner before checking into their hotels or visiting Asheville’s breweries. We’ll provide some soft drinks, too. Please, no alcoholic beverages.
The School-wide Celebration Picnic on Saturday from 11 AM - 2 PM is the main event of the weekend and will take place at the Salvage Station—located on the banks of the French Broad River in Asheville. This event will be casual, with a BBQ lunch, local beer and other beverages on hand for people to enjoy while catching up with old NCOBS friends and meeting new ones. Several displays, set up around the venue, will showcase various aspects of NCOBS history and programs. We will also offer fun activities and a place for kids to play. Admission, food and beverages (including your first beer) are free!
The Staff Reunion will be held Saturdaynight, beginningat5:00 PM at the Table Rock Base Camp. This largely unstructured event will allow plenty of time for reconnecting with old friends and fellow staff. Dinner will be provided and all guests are invited to camp at the base camp. Admission is free and attire is, of course, casual.
Base Camp Open Houses will be held on Sunday from 11 AM - 2 PM, at Table Rock, Cedar Rock and Green Cove Base Camps. The Challenge Ropes course at Table Rock and the Alpine Tower at Cedar Rock will be open for those wanting to partake, dress accordingly please. There will be light snacks provided.
At-Risk Program Staff, past and present, help us celebrate 50 years of programming by joining us for a reunion weekend! Activities for the weekend include, outdoor excursions, a celebratory dinner, service project, and of course, time to reconnect with your fellow Outward Bound friends. More details are on their way!
