How to Start an Outward Bound Program

Program Design

Complete Program Design Questionnaire.
Design program in consultation with North Carolina Outward Bound School representative.
Consider your travel arrangements to program location including costs.
Create financial plan to pay for the program.

Establish A Contract

Contract Promote program to potential participants and/or parents (ask about our resources to help you do this).
Get commitment from participants.
Collect money for deposit to North Carolina Outward Bound School (typically 25% of total cost).
Inform North Carolina Outward Bound School of participant numbers.
North Carolina Outward Bound School sends the contract.
Return contract with deposit (no less than 60 days before program begins).

Prepare For Your Outward Bound Program

Distribute paperwork to participants.
Collect any outstanding money.
Finalize travel arrangements.
Return all completed paperwork to North Carolina Outward Bound School (no less than 30 days before program start).
Send final payment to North Carolina Outward Bound School (no less than 30 days before program start).
Give participants an orientation to review travel, clothing, fitness, program and expectations.
Ensure all participants are in the right place at the right time with the right gear for program start.

Educational Transference

Plan and deliver opportunities for application of new skills and knowledge acquired during Outward Bound program.
